Scrap Store

Lets bring a scrap store to Hastings

Open Meeting Thursday 23rd Oct 2-4, Central Hall, Station road, Hastings

This is what we are thinking so far:….

Hastings Scrap Store

Mission Statement Hastings Scrap Store Initiative

Our mission is to promote environmental sustainability, creative education,

and community well-being through the collection and redistribution of clean,

reusable materials destined for landfill. By establishing a community-based

scrap store in Hastings, we aim to:

  • Reduce waste by diverting surplus and scrap materials from
  • Businesses, manufacturers, and households.
  • Support creativity and learning by making affordable resources available to schools, artists, community groups, educators, and families.
  • Foster inclusion and engagement through volunteering opportunities, workshops, and outreach programs that bring people together across generations and backgrounds.
  • Promote environmental awareness by encouraging reuse, upcycling, and resourcefulness as everyday practices.
  • Support low-income households and community organisations by providing cost-effective access to creative materials.
  • The Hastings Scrap Store will act as a hub for sustainability and creativity, enabling community members to turn waste into wonder while supporting ecological responsibility and social connection.
  • Also: Creating inclusive opportunities by offering volunteering and supported employment pathways for Autistic adults, in collaboration with Aspens and other local support organisations.
  • Building community connection in a welcoming café environment where people of all ages and backgrounds can gather, share ideas, and co-create together.

Hopefully the meeting will establish a small group who take this idea forward.

These are some things we think we will need to work out, but not all in one day!
